low sugar green smoothie recipe

By Emma Leave a Comment Jun 5 2

I’m aff the sugar.  Not just cos of the whole carrot cake debacle but because in general I find a lower sugar raw food diet works better for me.  (Cue Durianrider type assault from every 801010er on the planet).  I know high fruit works for tonnes of people (mostly athletes in hot climates) but for a Scottish (and temporary Icelandic) lass like myself it just disnae work.  I have tried it a few times.  Disaster.« Continue »

I Eat Dead People – smoothie recipe

By Emma Leave a Comment May 23 1

So I’m in Iceland, most of you will have gathered that already, and I’ve noticed whilst walking (A LOT) around the streets of Reykjavik that there are an abundance of dandelions.  I mean, literally bizillions of them!  There’s that thing (specific eh?) that says that certain wild foods will grow in abundance in the areas where they’re needed most.  Even in your own garden.  Where did I read that from?  Hang on…Ok after typing a few nondescript things in to Google I’m still none the wiser…Maybe it was Markus Rothkranz?  It really doesn’t matter anyway.

So yes, that means either a lot of people in Reykjavik need some serious support of the liver (check out my earlier blog about benefits of consuming wild foods like dandelions here) OR it’s me that does by the very fact that I’m seeing them everywhere! « Continue »

wild green smoothie

By Emma Leave a Comment Mar 25 2

Yessssssss it’s that time of year again!  The wild greens are sprouting up left, right and centre and I’m going wild green mental with my smoothies.  Whilst green smoothies give you a buzz, wild green smoothies take you to a whole other dimension baby!  Here was today’s recipe:

Wild Wild Life

1 cucumber

3 sticks celery

2 pears

1 cup blueberries

3 handfuls wild greens (dandelion leaves, sorrel and ground elder)

1 handful spinach

2 sprigs mint

1/4 lime*

*Adding lime to green smoothies really sexifies them!

Here are some pics of the wild greens but for goodness sake get an actual identification book and don’t go out picking things if you aren’t 100% sure what they are 🙂« Continue »
