Soooooo…everything is going well. You’re eating a large amount of raw food. Feeling great. Looking great. You’re on a high! You think to yourself:
I’ve finally got this in.the.bag.baby!
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
But uh-oh, what’s this? Hang on. What am I doing walking towards the fridge for a slice of carrot cake?
What the bejesus am I doing phoning for a large Marguerita pizza?
It was all going so well. But before you can say large tub of Ben & Jerry’s you’re going backwards faster than something really really fast and you don’t understand why this is happening…
That, my love, is called s.e.l.f. s.a.b.o.t.a.g.e
When you, yes YOU, not your mum, not your dog, not your best-friend’s birthday cake, not your uncle Henry’s prize-winning quiche, but YOU make the decision to eat something not in alignment with your raw food lifestyle.
You might not even realise you’re doing it. When this happens you look outside of yourself, you blame external surroundings or situations but in truth YOU make the decision to do this, to sabotage your own efforts!
Do you know what the root cause of self sabotage is? FEAR! Yes that’s right, you are scared to continue your raw food eating because you are scared of something that you think raw food eating will lead to.
What is it?
Here are some of the things I think it might be…
I’m scared if I continue to eat raw…
I won’t be able to hang out with my friends anymore
I’m going to feel amazing and on some level I don’t think I deserve to
I’ll have to leave my partner/be disowned by my family
I won’t be able to go to parties/work do’s anymore
I’ll become a social recluse, a hippy, a weirdo, talk to plants
I’ll lose weight or become attractive and I’ve always been overweight/unattractive
I’ll be healthy and not be able to hide behind my ill health anymore…
It might be one of these, it might be none of these, but the truth is that when it comes to sabotaging your own progress, there is some fear going on.
If you want to find out where the root of your fear lies then simply ask yourself
What is it I’m really afraid of?
What makes me feel uncomfortable about eating raw food?
What possible reasons do I have for holding myself back?
Even if you can’t think of something straight away just sit with pen and paper and explore all the weird and wonderful reasons you might have for sabotaging your progress. Once you begin you’re likely to find some truth in what you’re writing.
A journal is so helpful for this process, because writing helps you connect with the highest part of yourself. Honour yourself by giving yourself the time and space to journal your thoughts on this.
Finally, understand that YOU are the one in control. Take back your power and realise that you have the strength to do this. By becoming consciously aware of our fears we can begin to set them free. Awareness is the key to overcome these sabotage setbacks.
Decide to become your supporter not your saboteur!
