Love your body baby!

By Emma May 5 5

I started writing this blog post in my sleep last night if you can believe?  How mental is that?  Do you ever catch yourself in your sleep reading or writing stuff and become conscious enough that you’re really impressed with the garbage you’re spewing?  Then become too conscious trying to actually make sense of it and then it stops?  Or is that just me?  I love that stuff…

The title of this blog post is possibly misleading.  I’m not talking about positive body image or accepting body shapes and stuff although that is obviously a very good thing.  I’m talking about actually loving your body as the wondrous machine that it is…

The content of this blog post came to me at about 3am when the thought popped in to my head that I’d just moved and I wondered why?  Why do we move about in our sleep?  Why not just stay in one position all night if you’re asleep?  I don’t know the answer to that yet, because I haven’t googled it, but that single thought set in motion sheer awe and appreciation for the fact that probably 99.999% of the time you’re completely out of the loop when it comes to your body and what it’s doing.  Everything is so unconscious.  It never stops working for you.  If you had to be in charge of everything that happened in your body then I’m guessing we’d all be either super human or dead.

I mean, your body just does what it does to keep you alive like an amazing machine.  And that’s great!  In fact, it’s awe inspiring don’t you think?  Reminds me of this

So where am I going with this?  Good question!  I started feeling really thankful for the body that I live in that does all this stuff to keep me going.  And when I think this way it makes me want to support my body even more to do its job.  That means more than just supplying it with the right fuel and water but also movement, fun and gratitude.  It also means not adding to its burden by giving it more crap to deal with, no pun intended.

So I wanted to say that following on from my Gratitude blog, today I choose to honour my body by giving it some right proper good stuff to eat and to THANK it for being so amazing!

When was the last time you thanked your body for all the stuff it does just for you?

I found this letter on a blog that one woman had written to her body, sounds crazy but it was such an amazing read check it out here.

So here’s my letter to my body today

Dear Body

Thank you for being the most stupendous thing in the history of all time.  I love that you do so much stuff for me and I’m really sorry I haven’t said thanks probably ever.  Also sorry for criticising you for being a bit flabby in places.  I still think you’re pretty damn gorgeous just the way you are.

I just wanted you to know that I am really thankful and if you could keep on doing what you’re doing and keeping me alive and stuff then I promise I’m going to stop poisoning you as much with nasty food when I’m drunk, move a bit more so you’re not bored, and feed you with lovely food and drink to make you feel good.

I’m off to pick nettles, want some?

Love you,

Emma

Woo woo.  Have an amazing day!  I KNOW I’m going to, with my body.  Woop we’re gonna rip it up!  Whatever that means…

    Hi Emma,

Your blog reminded me of the fourth verse of ‘Not Perfect’ by Tim Minchin:
