Health food shops in Glasgow

I said I’d do a sensible post after yesterday‘s mental one didn’t I?  God I’m a woman of my word!  So it seems from the genius that is Google that there’s quite literally millions of people (ok, at least 100) looking for information on health food shops in Glasgow.  And I figure, if someone’s gonna help you out it may as well be me.  Plus I get a kick out of helping people…

You’ll notice Holland & Barrett isn’t on here…there’s a good reason for that.  Cue law suit in another dimension…

Grassroots Organic

 

Massive health food shop on Woodlands Road near the centre of Glasgow with a huge array of every health food product, supplement, superfood, fresh and frozen produce you could care for.  They also have a selection of natural beauty and body products and raw foods (usually including chocolate and/or CAKE) in the deli counter.  Don’t go away without a tub of Booja Booja raw ice-cream.  I defy you to not become addicted to this!
Where in the hell is it like?

Natural Balance

 

This is a smaller health shop on Great Western Road that focuses mainly on supplements but in amongst this treasure trove of all things health-oriented you will find some raw goodies including OM BARS, sea vegetables, coconut water drinks and other peculiarities.  A lovely little shop and the man that owns it is just marvellous.
Where do I go to rock this shop?

Roots & Fruits

 

This is more of a deli/grocer again on Great Western Road with fresh organic fruits and vegetables but you’ll also find some decent raw food related products including chocolates.  Some of the cooked dishes in the deli are just mind-blowing especially the curries!  Oh and the home-made baked beans.  Everyone that works here is just bloody gorgeous.

Wholefoods Market Giffnock

 

Ok so this one doesn’t open until Autumn 2011 but still worthy of a mention I’m sure you’ll agree.  20,000 square feet of floor space showcasing the highest quality natural and organic foods – all free of artificial flavours, sweeteners, colours, preservatives and hydrogenated fats.  Yet to see what raw food options are going to be available here but if the one in London is anything to go by then OH YEAH BABY!
Where is it and I shall camp outside till Autumn?

Tchai-o-vna Tea House

 

Ok so this isn’t a health food shop at all it’s a tea house that specialises in a bizillion different teas (some of which are superbly outstanding for your health and vitality) and a range of veggie food.  So as it’s just round the corner from most of the above, once you’ve finished your health food shopping you can go and put your feet up here and enjoy a cuppa with a bit of RAW GOJI CAKE (which they stock) made by the stunning Gail Evans of Divaliciously Raw.  You must try the Yogi Yogi Chai as it’s the best (with soya milk if you’re vegan).  You might even see me there.  If so, say hi and buy me some cake 🙂
