raw food – 5 years on…

By Emma Leave a Comment Aug 23 0

So I’ve just realised that next month is my 5 year raw food anniversary.  I’d say rawniversary but that would make me a prize loon, worthy of a hefty kick in the shin.

So yeah, five whole ENGLISH years.  Whatta ride!

I guess I figured the purpose of this post would be to give you the benefit of my experience, but hell, every post I write is doing that.  Sometimes.« Continue »

superfoods for superfools and me definitely being a witch in a past life

By Emma Leave a Comment Aug 22 0

Superfoods can be fun.  I really quite dig them.  I think it’s because I was a witch in a past life.  So to me, adding a bit of this and a bit of that over my vitamix (in a sexy ‘I’m a witchy alchemist’ kind of way) is a bit of a modern day interpretation of the crazy cauldron shit I used to get up to all those moons ago.  Magick.

The thing is, they can also be a massive pain in the arse when you’re first starting out with them.  Getting to grips with the benefits and how to combine them can be a bit of a nightmare.  When I first started out with superfoods, a few months before I even discovered the whole raw food thang, I was combining green powder with milk in my cereal (I mean, seriously.  Can you actually believe?) and maca with water.  Jesus.  No wonder the powders went straight to the back of my cupboard never to be seen again.  Puke-tastic.« Continue »

not killing your mother on holiday and managing to stay healthy at the same time. sort of. including the chips

By Emma Leave a Comment Aug 20 0

So I’m just back from a glorious four days away to Alicante with my mother.  Mum’s are great, aren’t they?  Especially when they point out things like chin hair and give you advice about how you shouldn’t be letting yourself ‘go’.

Fun.

But that’s not the point of this blog.  No. I really just wanted to give you some tips on how to go away for short breaks to foreign destinations and still stick to raw/healthy eating as much as you can.« Continue »

Raw Food Truism #463

By Emma Leave a Comment Aug 7 0

Newsflash:

A green smoothie a day won’t just change your dress-size.

It won’t just change your attitude.

It’ll change your whole damn life, baby!

Do we look as if we’re doing this for the good of our health?

Good.

Because we totally are!

How To Be a Raw Food Heathen

By Emma Leave a Comment Aug 6 0

So I’ve discovered raw food heathenism.  When I say discovered, I actually mean invented.  Yep, when I’m bored with nothing exciting to do except break knives trying to open coconuts, I like to invent forms of heathenism to pass the time and amuse myself.  Turns out that raw food heathenism is the best thing since sliced nori sheets.  Check it out, baby!

taking water to the next dimension and me coming out as a hydrosexual

By Emma Leave a Comment Jul 24 0

We all know that a well hydrated body functions well and the importance of drinking and eating enough water, right?  Sure we do.  Our bodies and the Earth are approximately 70% water.  How weirdly cool is that?  The thing is, sometimes chugging back the liquidy stuff isn’t as sexy and exciting as we’d hope.  That’s why I’m here to share with you how to totally revolutionise water as you know and love it.

Step 1 – Start collecting your own spring water!

I could literally bang on about this ALL day.  Ask my friend Gary, I bored the actual shit out him one day, giving him the low-down about the awesomeness of ancient wells and springs.  I probably am some kind of hyrdosexual.  That’s it, I’m outing myself.  I am a hydrosexual.  Deal with it, yo!

I did a wee video of me at my favourite spring a while back.  Don’t dare laugh at my hat, it’s amazing.  Spring water is live and wild and probably definitely the most amazing water you can drink.  You can find springs in your area using findaspring.com or the megalithic portal or just generally googling the shit out of it.  God, I love spring hunting.

Moving on.

Step 2 – Funk that liquid up with some AMAZING fruit and vegetables.

This is where it gets sexy.  Chop up some of your fave fruits and veg and add to the water.  Get creative.  Use strawberries, oranges, lemon, cucumber, pear, apple, celery, fennel, kiwi, raspberries, goji berries, herbs, pineapple… the list quite obviously goes on.  The thing is you can mix and match all of these to create some truly sexual flavoured water.  Well better than the bottled crap in the stupormarket, full of chemicals and preservatives.  Ick!

The water absorbs the wonderful flavours and vitamins/minerals in the fruit.  Leave overnight in the fridge for the best flavour then chuck the leftovers in your smoothie.

Magic.

Trust me, this will have you drinking water ’til your eyeballs start floating!

Raw Food Gurus – the good, the bad and the ugly

By Emma Leave a Comment Jul 15 0

So I was having a conversation yesterday with my beloved and then later with my friend David (who may or may not be a covert Illuminati Ninja) about the relative qualifications, authority and transparency of raw food gurus.  Love them or hate them, there are quite a few out there, some more prolific than others and each with their own version of the raw food story to sell tell.

A lot of people don’t like the term ‘guru’ but there’s no getting away from the fact that in this raw food movement there are acknowledged ‘leaders’, chief proponents and people with a great deal of knowledge and expertise.  This is what a guru is.

So here’s what I think about the whole raw food guru thing…« Continue »

hold on to your pants, it’s an actual recipe!

By Emma Leave a Comment Jul 6 0

I’m not known for my posting of the recipes thing.  Truth be told when it comes to raw food I’m all about the mushy, gooey, smoothie slurping, pudding eating type thing.  If it fits in a blender, and even if it doesn’t, it’s got my name on it.

Anyway, I’ve just made possibly the best choc mango pudding of my entire life.  In fact, all my lives put together.  Ergo I’m posting the recipe.  Are you as excited as me?« Continue »

the real reason i eat raw

By Emma Leave a Comment Jul 6 0

So I was chatting to my friend Lisa last night.  She’s a real live lizard person but don’t let that put you off, she talks some good shit.  We were talking about how raw food diets evolve over time, I talked about that here.  My diet is looking a bit different right now, for a number of reasons I won’t even bore you with.  But when we were talking about it I realised that I’d forgotten the most important thing…« Continue »
