Do you know what I love about eating raw? Apart from the obvious feeling like you’re a total rock star all the time, having the best energy, outlook, funky vibe and general amazingness that eating lots of raw fresh food will do for a dude or dudette? Yep, it’s the COLOURS! Who else gets so turned on by the colour of their food they want to wear their damn dinner?
The thing about cooking food is that the colour tends to drain. Raw-style it’s hardcore colour-tastic. Enough colour to put Jason and his techni-colour dream coat to Shameville. Welcome to shameville, population: 1 dream coat, slightly worn.
Anyways. dinner tonight was remnants of the fridge salad – celery, avo, tom, spinach, cucumber (NEEEED to go shopping) smothered in broccoli bonkers (yes another kate magic recipe – i love love love broccoli bonkers). Anyway the main ingredient in it (apart from brocs obv) is SPIRULINA. What is spirulina I hear you ask through my psychic ability? Well thanks for asking, it’s a blue-green algae. Yes algae. It’s also approx 70% complete protein, with all essential amino acids in perfect balance. In comparison, beef is only 22% protein. Boo for beef!
Its outstanding nutritional profile also includes the essential fatty acids, GLA fatty acid, lipids, the nucleic acids (RNA and DNA), B complex, vitamin C and E and phytochemicals, such as carotenoids, chlorophyll (blood purifier), and phycocyanin (a blue pigment), which is a protein that is known to inhibit cancer. – i stole that from here
Amazingness aside it’s the damn colour of it I love. Check out the gorgeous blue-green sparkles. If you added some crystal manna on top (I forgot) that dinner plate would be a prize-winning work of art baby! So I’ve decided I want a spirulina dress with crystal manna sparkles 🙂 If I was a mermaid that’s totally what I would wear.
It’s kinda a bit hard to tell from the pic but honest it’s gorgeous
Aside from wanting to wear my dinner I don’t have much else blurb to share today. Didn’t do any exercise, hoping to get on my bike tomorrow. Ate lots of sirusly black choc today and yummy GREEEEEEN juice – pineapple, cucumber, dandelion, sorrel and spinach and mint 🙂 yumsville
Ohhhh I also made coconut truffles last night. Made these at 11pm last night after being wide awake (pesky raw energy) and took to work today. They were totally devoured – making these as part of my class!
Oh for anyone reading this that’s thinking of coming to my classes – don’t worry, I save the hardcore algae meals for advanced levels 🙂 Actually first time I had spirulina I wanted to throw up so bad i would’ve turned myself inside out! The trick is to mix it with the right ingredients to make it taste mmmmmmmmm! Then you kinda get used to it, then you like it, then you love it, then you want to WEAR IT!
Anyway, I’m off. The sun is shining and I’m busy day-dreaming!
