10 books

By Emma Mar 15 8

Don’t ask me why but on Saturday night I had a dream about this very blog post.  I’ve no idea what it’s all about but for some reason I’m compelled to write it.  In my dream, which wasn’t really a dream but more of a lucid dream, I heard myself tell myself (that sounds stupid) that I had to write this blog about the ten books that have changed my life.  I then proceeded to tell myself what these books were, sort of reminding myself in case I’d forgotten.

So here we go, the ten books that I can categorically state transformed me from where I was (bored, unhappy, unfulfilled, largely unconscious, negative) to where I am today (AMAZING) ha ha.  But seriously, these books have in one way or another shaped the magical life I live today and so here I am sharing them with you.

These are in no particular order but I’ll try to put them in the order I read them…

Detox Your World – Shazzie

This was the first book I read about raw food when I was really just starting out.  The reason I loved it so much was because it opened my eyes to just how much I’d been poisoning myself for years without having a clue.  The book covers so many aspects of how to er, detox your entire world and for that reason I love it.  How it impacted my life: It taught me about using natural products in my home and on my body, the importance of having lots of plants indoors, sleeping with the window open for fresh air, that it’s good not to wear a bra sometimes…or pants! 🙂 Er moving on, it also has great recipes and detox plans.  Shazzie is how I got in to raw in the first place so I’m eternally grateful to her.

Sunfood Diet Success System – David Wolfe

This is my favourite raw food book of all time.  This is the book that really hits the switch about how to return to a natural way of eating and the power of raw food on the body and mind.  It also talks about thoughts and goals and how to turn these in to reality and that was really the start for me in terms of paying attention to what I want and how to achieve it.  Beautiful book, amazing pictures and just a lovely approach to living naturally.

The Power of Now – Eckhart Tolle

Probably the first ‘spiritual’ book I got.  Picked it up at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre while on a meditation course.  It literally screamed out the shelf at me and when I started reading I couldn’t stop.  Amazing book that switched me on to the understanding that most of us live (through our thoughts) either in the past or projecting in to the future when really all there is is the now – this is where you truly live.  Eckhart is an amazing teacher and talks about how to become aware of the thinker inside you, that you are not your mind, how to bring yourself in to the now and introduced me to the concept of my own ego which can be very interesting at times.  I’m re-reading this book just now and it’s mind-blowing…literally 😉

7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness – Jim Rohn

I bloody love Jim Rohn.  He died recently, such a loss.  My friend Lucy lent me this book and it was another “oh that’s so obvious now” book.  Jim talks about how to change YOU not your environment if you want to succeed in life.  He really got me motivated to read more books and work hard at myself rather than my job.  Amazing book.  Going to dig it out now to read again.

Ask and It Is Given – Esther & Jerry Hicks

This was my introduction to the law of attraction which, if you’re not aware, talks about how the frequency or thoughts you put out to the external world are what attracts things in to your life so if you keep thinking “bad things keep happening to me” then guess what, bad things will keep happening to you because that is the frequency you are operating on.  This took me a bit of practice to get in to because I didn’t realise I was saying so much rubbish in my head, telling my story the way I saw it.  You gotta change what your story is if you want a better one so I started putting out more positive thoughts and my life improved consistently.  It’s really amazing what you can manifest with your thinking and I’ve had countless examples in my own experience to back up the truth in it.  Whether it’s hocus pocus or whatever…

You Can Heal Your Life – Louise Hay

This is a fantastic book.  Louise is a wonderful woman who has helped hundreds of thousands of people.  She talks about how we invite disease in to our body with our thoughts and negative emotions.  If you have emotional blockages or issues this is the book for you.  It helped me overcome some things in the past (which doesn’t exist ha ha) and I felt a huge sense of relief after reading it.  Again it’s about negative thought patterns and how these affect you physically and emotionally.

Money and The Law of Attraction – Esther & Jerry Hicks

This book put a stop to me saying “I can’t afford it” ever again 🙂  It’s law of attraction but related to financial situations and how to get out of a negative mindset around money.

Conscious Language – The Logos of Now – Robert Tennyson Stevens

Brilliant book, lent to me by my friend Paddy.  This was an advanced level of awareness about the language I was using both internally and externally.  Again takes practice but the bottom line is if you change the language you are using you can change your reality.  Totally mind-blowing and quite interesting to realise just what you say and how you say it.

History of Western Philosophy – Bertrand Russell

This opened my mind to so much more than I had ever considered before.  Philosophy isn’t just a bunch of old men with beards sitting around questioning our existence, ok, it is a bit.  Most of it however is oh so relevant to how you live your life today.  It will expand your mind and broaden your horizons! Amazing, amazing book!
History of Western Philosophy (Routledge Classics)

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind – Joseph Murphy

This was a continuation of the theme on thoughts and reality however it was saying that your subconscious mind is more powerful than you can ever realise.  It has the answer to all your questions just waiting to be tapped in to and can cure any disharmony or dis-ease just by having faith in the power of your mind to overcome these things in the body.  It also talked about asking your subconscious mind questions (about anything) before you drift off to sleep and the answers are there in the morning.

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: One of the Most Powerful Self-help Guides Ever Written!

Anyway so there you go.  Perhaps one of these will be of interest to someone but I highly recommend them all!

    1. Conversations with God: completely changed my view on spirituality and that my beliefs were ok just as they were.

    2. The Magic of Believing: picked up in a random second hand shop when I was 14, living in my small beachside town. It really made me realise there is more to life, and that I could have it if I wanted it.

    3. Rich Dad, Poor Dad: this really changed my view of wealth and was the first book about money that really inspired me, without intimidation or making me feel stupid.

I’ll think of some more – I’m a ridiculous book worm, especially personal development books
