I remember when I first went raw. The months and months I got stressed because all I wanted to do was choose healthy raw foods but time after time I found myself in the midst of cooked food cravings, drawn to the stodgy comfort foods, lost in a quagmire of junky sugary fatty salty foodstuffs.
Cooked and junk foods called to me, beckoned me with their irresistible smells and flavours. I couldn’t help but succumb. I felt weak, hopeless and wondered if things would ever get any easier. There were days when choosing healthy raw foods over cooked comfort food felt like the hardest thing in the universe. I didn’t think it would ever go away…
Four years on, it hasn’t.
The truth is you will be challenged and feel cravings for foods that might be less than healthy. You will find yourself in situations where your will is tested and you decide to eat the chips or the cake or whatever less than healthy looks like to you…
There is however some good news… *cue fanfare*
No matter what rubbish you feed your body, sooner or later it will rebel and DESIRE delicious, healthy raw foods.
Sounds too good to be true doesn’t it?
Trust me it will happen. I’ve spoken about this before here, the switch to craving the raw rather than the junk…
I’ve experienced this so many times and especially this week. I’ve been up in the beautiful Highlands volunteering. Part of the programme involves having all my food cooked and prepared for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had some delicious food but each day my body has been starting to wonder what the hell is going on?
And after a few days it rebelled.
Yesterday I would’ve sold my body for a green smoothie. True.
I was starting to feel sick, look sick and my sparkle and zest was diminishing.
Cue Green Smoothie to the rescue. A big delightful, fresh, tangy smoothie with actual vitamins, minerals and life-force! Sooooooooooo goooooooooood!
Trust me, after years of eating raw foods (and cooked of course) your body will come to KNOW what it wants, KNOW what it likes and KNOW what’s good for it.
Continuing to eat raw food (that’s the important bit) enhances your innate knowledge, your body’s inner wisdom is triggered and sooner or later your mind will have much less say about what goes inside!
When you can actually FEEL the difference you know you’re on the right path!
I don’t know where you’re at in your journey. You might’ve already reached this stage. But if not, this is what I’d like to share with you:
Have faith – KNOW that this is the experience of so many other raw foodists. It happens at varying stages for each of us but it does happen.
Train your body to know what to ask for by furnishing it with as much raw food as you can. That doesn’t mean you have to be 100% raw, it just means that by upping the amount of raw food you eat your body will come to know AND ASK FOR what it needs.
Become conscious – I’m not suggesting you yo-yo from cooked junk to fresh raw but I’d ask you to observe for yourself how you feel after eating each and bring it more in to your conscious awareness how your food makes you FEEL.
Relax – simply knowing that this process is going to take place, who knows when, should help you to enjoy the raw food journey so much more. You don’t need to make a problem out of it…
