Following on from my earlier post about being stuck in a raw rut I thought I’d type up a lil’ post on what to do if you’re feeling stuck or bored with your raw food diet.
It’s not unusual (haha I can never say that without thinking of Tom Jones) to get a bit bored with what you’re eating every once in a while. Especially if you find yourself in a routine of making the same-old, same-old.
When you find yourself in this situation it can make you more likely to give in to temptation and make less than healthy choices, just for the sake of something a bit different or dare I say, naughty? It’s all too easy to get stuck in the same eating patterns and feel a bit unenthused!
Now and again, like all things in life, you just gotta spice things up a bit – and I’m not talking condiments here…or maybe I am a bit.
It’s time to get excited about your raw food diet all over again!
Do you remember that honeymoon phase when you first discovered raw? When everything was so new and exciting? When you felt on top of the world for the very first time because you’d made the most amazing green smoothie? Was that just me? 🙂
You won’t ever get your raw honeymoon phase back again but you can at least try to recreate it using any of the following:
A change is as good as a holiday! And that applies equally to what you’re eating. Get out those recipe books or go online to check out new exciting recipes. With more and more people interested in raw food that means more and more people coming up with NEW, creative and ingenious ways to combine foods to create delicious raw recipes! I like Gone Raw Recipe website because you can find recipes you like that will lead you to raw food blogs with more, err, recipes you like!
Don’t limit yourself to checking out raw food recipe websites. Check out cooked ones too and food magazines! It’s relatively easy to translate cooked ingredients in to a raw version and create something sensational.
What new information is out there about raw food? Answer: probably a lot. When I first discovered raw foods I was watching David Wolfe videos on YouTube, pretty much because that was the main stuff on there. Now you can find a bizillion videos with more up to date information to inspire and motivate you. Take a peek. You might end up discovering a new person that reignites that raw spark under you!
Get curious. Go to your local ethnic supermarket and marvel at some of the exotic vegetables and fruits that adorn the shelves as well as spices, herbs and anything else you fancy the look of…maybe the checkout guy?
Go to a raw event – whether that’s a talk or a potluck. I found that after each potluck I attended my interest in raw food skyrocketed. Spending time with like-minded people really asserts your path! The even better news is you get great food AND new ideas AND the chance to spend time with groovy people. They call that a WIN WIN WIN people!
Play with your food – have fun! Have a picnic for breakfast. Eat outside. Drink your smoothie out your best wine glass. Eat your dinner off your special occasion plates. Cut your food in to silly shapes. Light candles. Do something different and a little bit crazy 🙂
Check out the farmer’s market. Not only might you discover something new but there’s something a bit more special, more archaic to go and speak to the people that grew your food! It’s also great to support your local farmers!
Splash out on some tasty treats. You know I absolutely realise now that raw chocolate really helps me stick to this path. Yes, it costs more than a cucumber but it’s what works for me to have that special treat for myself. Do whatever it takes for you to feel like you aren’t missing out!
Go to a raw restaurant – if there’s one near you. Shame there are no raw restaurants in Glasgow or Scotland at the moment (you should totally open one – nice bit of subliminal messaging there) but there are places you can go for an awesome salad (Leftbank on Gibson Street, Glasgow and Hendersons in Edinburgh are just two I know of) and if you can afford a wee trip to London well then you’re more or less sorted for raw food eateries!
Here’s the awesome raw food dish I had at Glo restaurant yesterday 🙂
Check out online raw shops to see what new products are making it to the scene. When you haven’t looked for a while you might be surprised to discover the new products on the market. The US has a much bigger ‘scene’. Check out some US sites and chip in with your mates to cover the cost of shipping for some awesome scran! My fave? One Lucky Duck in NYC – oh mamma!
These of course are just a few of my suggestions, I’d love to hear more of yours!
Have a great day, put some music on and dance about like a maddie, that’s what I’m about to do 🙂 xx
